Mindful Parenting With Mel

By Mel Peirce- Parenting Coach and Local Mom August 26, 2026

I hope you had a wonderful summer and are feeling ready for the start of another school year!

As teachers prepare to welcome a new group of students, they're trying to learn a lot of names, personalities, strengths, challenges, learning styles, and needs, all at once. And parents often know little things about their children that can take weeks or even months for a new teacher to discover. That's why one of my favorite back-to-school tools is a simple "Meet My Child" guide.  It's a one-page snapshot that helps a teacher quickly understand who a child is, what they love, their strengths, what can be challenging for them, and, most importantly, what helps.

In this month's article, I share what parents should include, what they should leave out, and how to use the guide to start the year as a partner with their child's teacher.

One Simple Way to Help Your Child Start School Strong

And a quick update for this school year...

After several years of writing weekly parenting articles, I'm changing things up a bit. This year, I'll be sharing one new article each month rather than weekly.

I've also recently been invited to help develop an app designed to support busy families, which is an exciting extension of the work I've been doing with parents. As I take on that new project, I'm being a little more intentional about where I spend my time.

I'll still be here sharing practical tools and strategies that schools can pass along to parents. There will just be fewer emails from me in your inbox this year!

As always, thank you for sharing these resources with your school communities. I hope the Meet My Child guide helps some of your families start the year feeling a little more connected and supported.

Here's to a great school year!

Best,
Mel
